Time is an endless process that we constrain and make finite by measuring it. We measure minutes, days, weeks, count our years—and this counting reinforces our awareness of our transience. What would it be like if we let time flow freely and our days passed in a state of timelessness?
Aión attempts to explore this idea, showing endless time with an hourglass that is constantly being refilled. On the stone-carved clock face, similar to traditional clocks, the hand moves every second, which is unusually a sandglass fixed in the middle. In its constant cycle, the sandglass never runs out: instead of hours, it shows timelessness without beginning or end.
The installation was created for the Curtain of Time exhibition and can be viewed at the GIM House.
